Long-Term Care Art Meditation Sessions
Art Meditation Sessions for Long-Term Care facilities
Vivid Art Meditation sessions are acrylic painting, participatory art sessions, tailored to residents' needs and abilities. Systematic instruction is used to guide resident groups through the painting project, with the goal of the session being not the creation of the perfect art piece, but engagement in the creative process.
The Benefits of participatory art sessions for older adults:
- Participatory visual arts reduce stress and anxiety for older adults (Martin et al., 2018)
- Art sessions improve brain processing and increase emotional cognitive-self regulation (Lusebrink and Alto, 2010; Pike, 2013)
- Participation in art therapy improves quality-of-life levels for stroke patients (Kim and Kang, 2013)
- Art sessions lower cortisol levels, specifically for individuals with less artistic experience and skill (Kaimal et al. 2016)
